Convert a Secondary DNS Zone to a Primary Zone

Overview

At any time, a Secondary DNS Zone may be converted to Primary. By converting a Secondary DNS Zone to Primary, SoftLayer's nameservers will become the authoritative nameservers for the converted Zone. Follow the steps below to convert a Secondary DNS Zone to Primary.

Convert a Secondary DNS Zone to Primary

  1. Access the Secondary DNS Zones screen in the Customer Portal. Refer to Access the DNS Zones Screen.
  2. Select Convert to Primary from the Actions drop down list for the desired Secondary Zone.
  3. Click the Yes button to convert the Zone. Click No to cancel the action.

What Happens Next

After converting the Secondary DNS Zone to Primary, it may be viewed on the Forward Zones screen. All SOA and NS records that previously existed for the Zone will be replaced by SoftLayer's SOA and NS records and may not be edited. The ability to edit remaining Zone records will still be available.
