Setup the Default Name Servers in Plesk

The following steps will guide you through the process to Setup the Default Name Servers in Plesk.

  1. Log into Plesk.
  2. From the left-hand navigation menu, click Server Management > Tools & Settings.
  3. From the center of the page, under General Settings, click DNS Template Settings.
  4. To set the name server, click Add DNS Record from the top navigation menu.
  • You will need two IPs. You can use the primary IP already assigned to your server as one and for the other you will have to go to the SoftLayer portal an order an additional static public subnet if you have not already.
  1. Select record type A from the drop-down menu.
  2. In the Domain name box, type in ns1.
  3. In the IP address box enter primary IP address.
  4. Click OK.
  5. From the left hand navigation menu, click Server Management > Tools & Settings.
  6. From center of the page, under General Settings click DNS Template Settings.
  7. From the top navigation menu, click Add DNS Record.
  8. From the drop-down menu, select record type NS.
  9. In Domain name box, type ns1.
  10. In the Name server box, type ns1.domain.com (replacing domain.com with the actual domain name being used.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Set up the second name server by repeating steps 4-15, applying ns2 and ns2.domain.com where appropriate.
  13. You should now have the following two DNS records set up for both name servers:
  • A records - showing the IP address to which each record is bound
  • NS records - ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com (showing the actual domain name used)

After server configuration is complete, the next step is to visit the domain registrar to register the two name servers and point them to your domain. For further information on this process please contact your respective Domain Registrar for instructions on setting it up in their system.
